Starting in 1969 the Missile and Drone Division of the Air Force Missile Development Center (Holloman AFB) was tasked to support the development of sensors at MIT. It was determined that it would be more cost effective to have a launch site in the New England area rather than attempt to move the sensor to Holloman AFB/White Sands Missile Range. Accordingly, a site was located at North Truro Air Force Station on Cape Cod. Under the code name Have Horn, a sounding rocket launcher and associated equipment was installed at that station. The first Nike-Hydac sounding rocket was launched from that site in December 1969 and followed with a few more in the early 1970 time period. All launches were successful. Following the launches, all equipment was air-lifted back to Holloman AFB. Wayne O. Mattson was launch control officer for this exercise.
