Number: 1. Selection announced: 19 September 1962. Requirement: Provide supplemental pilots for X-20A Dyna-Soar spaceplane flights. Qualification: Assigned from pool of active USAF and NASA Test Pilots. Armstrong and Dana left the X-20 program in the summer of 1962. Crews was named at their replacement. The identity of the six Dyna-Soar pilots was made public on 19 September 1962.
