Personal: Male. Born in Berestovenka, Ukraine. Soviet Air Force Graduated from Higher Air Force School in Orenburg, 1963. Graduated from Aerospace Institute Moscow, Department Akhtubinsk, 1973. Soviet Air Force Test pilot, Soviet Air Force. Astronaut Career Astronaut Group: Buran Group 1 - 1978, Chkalov Group 1 - 1987. Inactive Entered space service: February1979. Left space service: 28 November 1992. Head of Lapot test pilot detachment 1978 to 1987. Cosmonaut training January 1979 - November 1980. Transferred to Buran project 1987. Performed six test flights with the AeroBuran test aircraft. Retired from Air Force for medical reasons, then worked at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. Test pilot for aircraft project Alfa and until 1993, for "Thermoplan". From 1999 advisor for the National Aviation Committee.
Bachurin Chronology 15 October 1987 - Buran Analog BST-02 flight 15. Assignment: Prime Crew. Time 19 minutes. 24 January 1988 - Buran Analog BST-02 flight 17. Assignment: Prime Crew. 23 February 1988 - Buran Analog BST-02 flight 18. Assignment: Prime Crew. Time 22 minutes. 12 March 1988 - Buran Analog BST-02 flight 20. Assignment: Prime Crew. 23 March 1988 - Buran Analog BST-02 flight 21. Assignment: Prime Crew. 28 March 1988 - Buran Analog BST-02 flight 22. Assignment: Prime Crew. 1991 December - Soyuz Buran Support (cancelled). Assignment: Proposed Prime Crew. Flight: Soyuz Buran Support. Planned Soyuz flight to Mir. Main purpose was to provide spaceflight experience to Bachurin and Borodai, who had been selected as back-up crew of the first manned Buran flight.
