Alexei Sergeyevich Borodai Ukrainian Pilot Cosmonaut. Born 28 July 1947.

Personal: Male, Married, Two children. Born in Borodaevka, Volgograd, Russia. Soviet Air Force Graduated from Higher Air Force School Soviet Air Force Soviet Air Force test pilot.

Astronaut Career

Astronaut Group: Buran Group 1 - 1978, Chkalov Group 1 - 1987. Inactive Entered space service: January 1979. Left space service: 29 December 1993. Buran test pilot, 1978-1987. Cosmonaut training January 1979 - November 1980. Flew six test flights with AeroBuran.

Retired from the military on 29 December 1993 . Lost both legs in the 8 October 1996 crash landing of an An-124 in Turin, Italy.

15 October 1987 - Buran Analog BST-02 flight 15. Time 19 minutes.


24 January 1988 - Buran Analog BST-02 flight 17.
23 February 1988 - Buran Analog BST-02 flight 18. Time 22 minutes.
12 March 1988 - Buran Analog BST-02 flight 20.
23 March 1988 - Buran Analog BST-02 flight 21.
28 March 1988 - Buran Analog BST-02 flight 22.
1991 December - Soyuz Buran Support (cancelled). Planned Soyuz flight to Mir. Main purpose was to provide spaceflight experience to Bachurin and Borodai, who had been selected as back-up crew of the first manned Buran flight. Cancelled in cut-backs after fall of the Soviet Union.
