Charles Richard Chappell American Payload Specialist Astronaut. Born 2 June 1943.

Personal: Male, Married, One child. Born in Greenville, South Carolina, USA. Bachelor of arts in physics from the Vanderbilt University, 1965. Ph.D. in space science from the Rice University, Texas, 1969. Worked for NASA's Marshall Spaceflight Center.

Astronaut Career

Astronaut Group: Payload Specialist. Inactive Entered space service: 27 December 1985. Left space service: 2 April 1992. Scientific Payload Specialist Selection 6 in 1985.

From 1995, a Director at NASA MSFC. From 1999 Division of Media Relations, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee.


Chappell Chronology

1986 October - STS-61-K (cancelled). Planned EOM-1 shuttle mission. Cancelled after Challenger disaster. No crew named, later combined with STS-61K
