Deceased Entered space service: 20 September 1962. Left space service: 31 December 1963. Born in Valparaiso, Indiana; married with four children. Received a BS in aeronautical engineering from Purdue University in 1950. Chosen as an X-20 pilot while assigned to the Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards Air Force Base. He remained with USAF after the cancellation of the program, eventually retiring with the rank of Colonel. Gordon Henry Chronology 1 April 1960 - USAF Dynasoar Astronaut Training Group selected.. The group was selected to provide pilots for X-20A Dyna-Soar spaceplane flights.. Qualifications: Assigned from pool of active USAF and NASA Test Pilots.. Ten test pilots (7 USAF, 3 NASA) underwent physical examinations in August 1959.
