Personal: Male. Born in Kaliningrad, Kaliningrad, Russia. Chkalov Institute Graduated from Higher Air Force School, Tambov, 1967, from the Test Pilot School in Akhtubinsk, 1976, and from Moscow Aviation Institute, 1981 State Red-Banner Scientific Research Institute named for Chkalov of Russian Air Force. Colonel, and test pilot, State Red-Banner Scientific Research Institute named for Chkalov of Russian Air Force. Astronaut Career Astronaut Group: Buran Group 1 - 1978. Inactive Entered space service: January 1979. Left space service: 1987. Cosmonaut training January 1979 - November 1980. Buran Test Pilot, 1978-1987. Worked at headquarters of Russian Air Force until 1995. From 1995 to 1997 he was a Tu-134 Commander for Alrosa-Avia, and from 1997 to 1998 a Deputy Director at the Polyus Company. This was followed by service as a pilot for the Tefis Aviation Company. From 1999 he was a Flight Commander for the Krylo Company.
