Sheffer, Yuri Petrovich (1947-2001) Russian test pilot cosmonaut, 1985-1996. Was married to cosmonaut Tamara Zakharova.

Graduated from Kachinsk Higher Military Pilot School, 1970. Graduated from test pilot school in Zhukovsky, 1977. Graduated from Moscow Aviation Institute, 1980. Civilian test pilot for the Air Force Ministry. Cosmonaut training completed 1987. Buran Test Pilot After the end of the Buran-program he served again as test pilot and became 1999 Director, test pilot-school of LII. Died in airplane crash at Zhukovsky Flight Research Center, Russia after a heart failure.

Birth Place: Chelyabinsk, Chelyabinsk.
