Bachelor of arts in Physics and Mathematics from Grinnell College, 1955. Master of science and Ph.D. in Physics from CalTech, 1961 and 1963, respectively. MBA from the University of Utah, 1976. US Air Force. Research scientist at Air Force Geophysics Laboratory in Sunspot, New Mexico. Selected as backup for STS-51F. Peak Observatory, Sunspot, New Mexico.

Birth Place: Frankfurt.
