Andrei Nikolayevich Tupolev Russian Chief Designer. Born 10 November 1888. Died 23 December 1972. Chief Designer and General Designer 1943-1972 of OKB-156.

Personal: Male. Born in Russia.

Pre-eminent Soviet designer of bombers and transports. Several of his Tu-95 bombers were modified for air-drop of cruise missiles and spaceplanes. He also designed boost-glide space bombers in the 1950's and 1960's. His bureau developed the Tu-2000 hypersonic bomber / space shuttle in the 1990's.
