Soviet Air Force Graduated from Higher Military Pilot School, Armavir, 1976, from Soviet Air Force Test Pilot School in Akhtubinsk, 1985 and from Moscow Aviation Institute, 1989 Soviet Air Force Test Pilot School. Soviet Air Force Test Pilot School. Astronaut Career Astronaut Group: Buran Group 3 - 1989, Chkalov Group 3 - 1992. Inactive Entered space service: 25 January 1989. Left space service: 28 November 1996. Cosmonaut training March 1989 - April 1991. Was to have been a Buran pilot. Returned to the Test Pilot School in Akhtubinsk. In 1997 he retired from active military duty. From 1998 to 1999 he served as a pilot for Transaero-Airline. Later he worked for Transevropskiye Avialiniy Airline.
