Class: Earth. Type: Radarsat. Destination: Medium Earth Orbit. Nation: Ukraine. Agency: MO SSSR. Manufacturer: Yuzhnoye.

First prototype of Okean series. Development of methods for obtaining operational information on the Pacific Ocean. The Okean's instruments were evidently mounted on a Meteor 3 bus. Instruments did not include the RLSBO side-looking radar. Therefore it would have been equipped with:

  • SM-5 magnetometer
  • RM-0.8 scanning radiometer with a swath width of 550 km and a resolution of 25 km
  • MSU-M 4-band multispectral scanner with a swath width of 1900 km and a resolution of 1.8 km
  • MSU-S 2-band multispectral scanner with a swath width of 1100 km and a resolution of 410 m
  • Typical orbit: 540 km x 560 km at 83 degrees inclination. Mass: 1,950 kg (4,290 lb).
