Class: Earth. Type: Radarsat. Destination: Medium Earth Orbit. Nation: Ukraine. Agency: MO SSSR. Manufacturer: Yuzhnoye. First prototype of Okean series. Development of methods for obtaining operational information on the Pacific Ocean. The Okean's instruments were evidently mounted on a Meteor 3 bus. Instruments did not include the RLSBO side-looking radar. Therefore it would have been equipped with:
SM-5 magnetometer
RM-0.8 scanning radiometer with a swath width of 550 km and a resolution of 25 km
MSU-M 4-band multispectral scanner with a swath width of 1900 km and a resolution of 1.8 km
MSU-S 2-band multispectral scanner with a swath width of 1100 km and a resolution of 410 m
Typical orbit: 540 km x 560 km at 83 degrees inclination. Mass: 1,950 kg (4,290 lb).
Okean-E Chronology - 1979 February 12 - Cosmos 1076 - Program: Okean. Launch Site: Plesetsk. Launch Complex: LC32/2. Launch Vehicle: Tsiklon. Mass: 1,950 kg (4,290 lb). Perigee: 514 km (319 mi). Apogee: 530 km (320 mi). Inclination: 82.50 deg. Period: 95.10 min.
Test mission of Okean satellite without the radar. Development of methods for obtaining operational information on the Pacific Ocean.
- 1980 January 23 - Cosmos 1151 - Program: Okean. Launch Site: Plesetsk. Launch Complex: LC32/1. Launch Vehicle: Tsiklon. Mass: 1,950 kg (4,290 lb). Perigee: 566 km (351 mi). Apogee: 589 km (365 mi). Inclination: 82.50 deg. Period: 96.20 min.
Test mission of Okean satellite without the radar. Testing of methods for obtaining operational information on the oceans.
