Lincoln Defense Area

Nike air defense area, consisting of several Nike missile batteries to defend urban, industrial, and military targets from Soviet bomber attacks.

Site LI-01 located at Ceresco/Davey and site LI-50 at Crete were two above-ground Nike Hercules batteries operated by one Regular Army battalion that also operated sites in the Offutt Defense Area. The missiles provided defense for SAC bombers and Atlas missiles stationed at and around Lincoln AFB between 1960 and 1966.
