Temp-S.2M
Part of Temp-S tactical missile series
Russian intercontinental ballistic missile. The Temp-S.2M was the first strategic rocket designed by A D Nadiradze at NII-1. The design was abandoned when weight growth made it too heavy for the planned mobile transport.

Status: Study 1965. Gross mass: 37,000 kg (81,000 lb). Height: 18.50 m (60.60 ft). Diameter: 1.80 m (5.90 ft). Span: 1.80 m (5.90 ft).

The missile was a follow-on to the Temp-S tactical rocket. The S.2M originally had a total mass of 32 metric tons, and various forms of mobile transport, including tracked vehicles and a T-64 tank chassis were examined. Due to the weight of the necessary guidance system, the vehicle grew to 37 metric tons, and no good solution for transporting the missile could be found. The design was abandoned and a 'clean sheet of paper' led to the Temp-2S. Solid rocket motors for all three stages of the rocket would have been provided by B P Zhukov at NII-125.

Maximum range: 8,000 km (4,900 mi). Number Standard Warheads: 1. Standard warhead: Nuclear. Cruise engine: Solid rocket.

Family: ICBM, vehicle-launched. People: Nadiradze. Country: Russia.
