German Luftwaffe Pilot. Colonel and Commander of the JG 1 of the German Luftwaffe. Flew the He-162 Salamander to 840 km/hr In April 1945.

Born: 1914-06-01. Died: 1995-08-08.

Ihlefeld was a leading Luftwaffe ace, with 132 kills to his credit by the end of World War ii. In March 1945, JG 1 moved to Leck. The JG 1 was equipped with jet fighter HE 162 A-1 and HE 162 A-2, the first and only squadron so equipped. There were 34 operational HE 162s, and an unknown number of inoperable aircraft. Iblefeld piloted one aircraft to a record speed of 840 km/hr In April 1945.
