American physicist, served in leading academic, industry, and government positions, notably as chief scientist with the US Air Force in the early 1950s.

Born: 1911-11-11. Died: 1959-05-21.

Louis N. Ridenour received his Ph.D. in physics from the California Institute of Technology in 1936, and began work at Princeton University. In 1938 he moved to the University of Pennsylvania, were he remained until 1947. He then went to the University of Illinois, but left there in 1951 to become vice president of the International Telemeter Corp. He also served in several positions with scientific organizations in the Federal Government, most significantly as chief scientist with the U.S. Air Force in the early 1950s. From 1955-1959 he held management positions at Lockheed's Missile Systems Division in Burbank, California.
