Born: 1927-08-01. Birth Place: Buffalo, New York.

Wier attended Syracuse University, then a stint in the Army and the Navy, where he was a flight engineer aboard Martin PBM's. After leaving the service he worked at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory for five years as a Project Engineer for air-launched ordnance. He joined Convair in 1956 and was assigned to the Atlas project. There he was a flight test engineer, finally being the launch conductor at Vandenberg at the Atlas-E Operational Systems Test Facility (OSTF-1) "coffin" launcher. He was later Chief of Atlas Test Support in San Diego, then a Deputy Program Manager for Atlas. He worked on the unsuccessful Convair proposal for a Fly-Back shuttle booster; then as Program Manager for the Atlas space launcher; Director of Production for the first 100 Tomahawk cruise missiles; and finally as Vice President of Atlas programs. Wier retired in 1993.
